Description

The Tritech Micron DST Sonar (formerly known as the SeaSprite – an OEM name for the Micron) is the smallest digital CHIRP sonar in the world and is ideal for use on Pro 4 ROV systems as a first-rate obstacle avoidance sonar in miniature form.  CHIRP (or Compressed High Intensity Radar Pulse) techniques have been used for a number of years above the water in many commercial and military RADAR systems.  CHIRP technology dramatically improves the range resolution compared with conventional scanning sonars and is a feature normally associated with much larger, more expensive systems.

In addition to boasting CHIRP technology, as part of Tritech’s range of mechanical imaging sonars, the Micron scanning sonar utilizes Digital Sonar Technology (DST) to offer exceptional clarity and resolution.  The Micron scans 360° with a frequency up to 750kHz.

Typical VideoRay ROV / Micron Scanning sonar applications are:

  • ROV navigation
  • Search and Rescue (SAR)
  • Obstacle avoidance
  • Target recognition
  • Salvage operations
  • Subsea monitoring & inspection

VideoRay Pro 4 configurations that include the Micron scanning sonar are delivered with the Tritech SeaNet software factory-installed.  Pro 3 models are compatible with the Micron via the addition of a separate laptop.  The Micron will not work with Scout or Explorer models.

The Micron sonar fits perfectly into one of the float block plugs on the VideoRay Pro 3 or Pro 4 float blocks.  It can also be used in conjunction with the Tritech MicronNav USBL Positioning system and other VideoRay tools such as the manipulator arm.  The sonar has a standard auxiliary port to allow it to interface with other Tritech sensors.

Open Enrollment Certified VideoRay Training is available for the Tritech Micron sonar and is included with any VideoRay Pro 4 ROV configuration containing a Micron sonar system.
